Here's how to make brownie in a mug with a recipe that is so simple yet oh so decadent. Once you’ve made this brownie in a mug recipe once, you’ll be doing it, again and again. It’s so easy, quick, and delicious, so let’s dive in.
Choose the correct size of mug, at least 1 and a half cup or 11 ounce cup.
Start by adding the flour
And the cocoa powder
Then add the brown sugar and salt
Whisk the mixture really well with a whisk until the dry ingredients are smooth.
Now start adding the wet ingredients. Start with the oil.
Then add in vanilla.
And add in the milk or espresso.
Finish off with chocolate chips.
Mix well using a spatula.
Add extra chocolate chips on top and microwave for exactly 1 minute and 15 seconds on high.
When done the brownie would be cooked perfectly and chocolate chips melted on the tops.
Enjoy as is or serve with ice cream and caramel sauce!
For this recipe it’s best to use a microwave safe, thick large mug so that the brownie cooks evenly throughout and large enough so that the mix doesn’t overflow. You want it to stay contained while its cooking so you can enjoy eating it out of the mug and doesn’t create a mess.
This is actually slightly tricky. It should be about 1 minute, but this could vary slightly spending on the strength of your microwave. You’ll just have to use your judgement and see which timing works best. Also keeping an eye on your brownie towards the end of the minute is a good idea.
Because this brownie is cooked in a mug and is intended to be eaten from it, you don’t need quite so strong a structure so by leaving the egg out you get am extra gooey texture.
What's lovely about this recipe is that you can make it in all sorts of ways to suite what you like.
You can make this a coffee chocolate mug brownie by adding in coffee instead of milk, or if you’re a white chocolate lover then you can add in white chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate. You could even have both if you really want to jazz it up.
Another really lovely variation, that I'm sure some of you will love, is to add peanut butter. There’s nothing quite like the flavour of chocolate and peanut butter combined together to get your taste buds excited. This is especially so when it’s combined in this gooey and fudgey brownie in a mug recipe.
Who can resist nutella brownies, like seriously? Dollop a hefty tablespoon or two of nutella in the brownie batter in your mug and give it a swirl. Alternatively you can add the nutella over the top only. Either-way it's worth making!
If you fancy any other ingredient, its really easy to test it out with this recipe and see how you like it. The recipe only takes a few minutes to make and cook so it's a great one to test new flavours out with.
Some of my favorite add-ons to brownie in a mus are: (swirled in or mixed in or topped only):
To serve, you could use whipped cream instead of ice cream if you wish. This is a lovely addition that makes makes this recipe all the more decadent to enjoy.
